The Living Laboratory

Health Innovation Hub

The Living Laboratory and Kadans Science Partner, supported by Scottish Enterprise, have delivered the new Health Innovation Hub (HiH) in Govan, setting the stage for a thriving life sciences cluster in the area.

Adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), the new Health Innovation Hub expands on the success of the Clinical Innovation Zone. A further 65,000 square feet of flexible office and laboratory space has been created to accommodate new precision medicine and digital health companies, driving commercial job growth on site and expanding the existing precision medicine cluster at the campus.

The Health Innovation Hub offers a highly supportive and dynamic network for industry, providing access to world-leading academics, co-located industry partners and close proximity to outstanding resources and clinical infrastructure.

Located adjacent to the QEUH in Govan, one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK, the unique environment supports real-world testing of healthcare innovations in state-of-the-art facilities and provides opportunity for direct feedback from clinicians on the applicability of new technologies for patient care. This collaborative ecosystem drives the development, clinical validation and implementation of new technologies and healthcare innovations to enable the delivery of precision medicine within Govan, Glasgow and beyond.

HiH will be central to the expansion of the precision medicine cluster at the Clinical Innovation Zone, accelerating the growth of digital and precision medicine businesses at the QEUH. The vibrant ecosystem provides support for industry in key areas such as project management, regulatory and commercial expertise and direct patient engagement to ultimately enable industry to deliver innovations that will better tackle global healthcare challenges, maximising patient benefit.

Designed to be highly flexible, the Health Innovation Hub includes both laboratory and office space for life science and health businesses. There is an accessible ground floor, with a café and collaboration space, to create a usable space for the local community.

Glasgow Riverside Innovation District (GRID)

The Health Innovation Hub is a flagship investment within the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District (GRID), a partnership between the University of Glasgow, Scottish Enterprise and Glasgow City Council.

GRID aims to create an environment which will boost existing collaborations with industry and encourage the formation of new ones. Encompassing both banks of the River Clyde, GRID offers the city the chance to reimagine its proud industrial heritage for the 21st century and to establish Glasgow’s leadership in the industries of the future.

The Health Innovation Hub is due to open its doors in March 2026.
