Patient & Public Involvement (PPI)
We define Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) as research carried out with the active involvement of patients, carers, members of the public and other stakeholders, rather than research done to them or for them. These PPI partners contribute across the research lifecycle, from shaping study design to supporting the dissemination of results.
- facilitate access to lay perspectives on research proposals and ethics applications
- support planning and costing of PPI activities
- signpost researchers to external networks and organisations that can connect them with experienced PPI partners
MVLS Patient & Public Involvement Strategy
PPI-Strategy-2025-2027-v1.1.pdf
The MVLS Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Strategy (2025–2027) provides a clear plan for strengthening public involvement across all health research. Co‑developed with patient and public partners, university staff, and NHS colleagues the strategy seeks to ensure that public perspectives shape every stage of research. The strategy aims to build an inclusive culture where public contributors play a central role. It focuses on three main priorities visibility, capacity and training, which are key to growing and sustaining PPI across MVLS.
