A boost in our subject rankings

Two major rankings listings have placed the University in the world's top 100 across a majority of subject areas.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, eight out of 11 subject areas from the University appeared in the top 100 worldwide.
In total, nine subject areas improved from our 2025 results, and two subjects appeared in the world top 50: Psychology at 41st and Medical & Health at 48th. The THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026 assess universities across 11 subject groups, using the same 18 performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings 2026. These indicators are organised under five pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook.
Professor Andy Schofield is Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University: “These are very pleasing results that highlight both the strength and breadth of research and teaching at the University of Glasgow.
“The THE Rankings by Subject 2026 provide further evidence of our reputation as one of the world’s top 100 universities. I would like to thank all colleagues whose hard work and dedication have contributed to our success in these rankings.”
In addition, the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 put UofG in the global top 100 in three out of five broad subject areas. We ranked 41st for Life Sciences & Medicine, 66th for Arts & Humanities and 85th for Social Sciences & Management.
The Principal again shared his thoughts on our placings: "The QS rankings play an important role in shaping global reputation, and the outcome reflects the great efforts of colleagues across the University. It is fantastic to see the University of Glasgow once again performing strongly in the QS World University Rankings by Subject."
