International collaboration and the importance of global connectivity are at the core of the Global Glasgow International Strategy

We are delighted to welcome visitors from all corners of the globe and welcome conversations with international partners in education, industry, commerce and government.

All incoming international visitors are required to use our online form to request a visit. This will help the International Relations team understand your needs and ensures that all requests are given the same level of support to deliver a successful and meaningful visit.

Exploring new collaborations with Renmin University

Colleagues from Renmin University’s President and International Office visited the campus in November 2025. During the visit, the delegation met with the Principal Professor Andy Schofield and engaged in round table discussions with the College of Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Following the visit, further conversations have taken place online exploring potential collaborations.

Welcoming the South African High Commissioner

In November, we were delighted to welcome the High Commissioner of South Africa, His Excellency Jeremiah Nyamane Mamabolo. Accompanied by Author, Film-maker and Martial Artist, Professor Geoff Thompson our visitors met with the Principal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, External Engagement to discuss Student recruitment and research engagement in South Africa.

Reconnecting with NTNU colleagues

It was lovely to be reunited with our colleagues from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and explore new collaboration opportunities with the College of Science and Engineering and Social Sciences.

During the visit in October, colleagues from the Global opportunities team discussed the operational side of student mobility and shared best practice.

 

Minister for Science and Health Rheinland-Pfalz on campus

 

Minister for Science and Health Rheinland-Pfalz visit

We were delighted to welcome the Minister for Science and Health Rheinland-Pfalz to the University in September. Along with representatives from Scottish Universities, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, External Engagement and colleagues from all colleges, the delegation discussed existing opportunities between Rheinland-Pfalz and Scottish Universities and explored future collaborations.

In the afternoon, the group joined a Scottish Universities Life Sciences Alliance (SULSA) session with Key representatives from the network.

New MoU Signed with Sorbonne University

It was wonderful to welcome colleagues from Sorbonne University in mid-September. The delegation met with the Principal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, External Engagement, colleagues across all colleges, and signed a new MoU agreement signifying the start of a new partnership between the two universities.

Exploring opportunities with Shinshu University

We were delighted to host a small delegation from Shinshu University in late July. A colleague and alumnus of the university accompanied the Vice President.

The group met with colleagues from the School of Education, Global Opportunities and the School of Social & Environmental Sustainability to discuss existing and future collaborations, as well as exploring new campus developments.

Continuing the dialogue: return visit from Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Our International partners, Shanghai Jiao Tong University joined us for a visit in early July 2025, following an earlier successful meeting in late 2024. The Vice Chancellor and colleagues met with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, External Engagement, colleagues from the College of Science and Engineering, International Office and the College of Social Sciences to discuss existing and potential new collaborations.

Welcome for UIBE delegates on campus visit

President Zhao and delegates from University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) dropped by a sunny campus in May.

The group met with Deputy Vice Chancellor Frank Coton and colleagues from the College of Social Science to discuss potential joint teaching initiatives.

Norwegian delegation explores education links

The Norwegian Embassy visited a sunny campus on 13 May to discuss opportunities to foster relationships between Norway and Scotland in the Higher Education space.

During the visit, the deputy ambassador met with the Principal, the Dean for Global Engagement for Europe and key contacts who have links with research projects and academics in Norway.

Radboud-Glasgow Steering Committee

In April, the University of Glasgow welcomed the Dutch members of the Radboud-Glasgow Steering Committee to campus. The purpose of the visit was to select the next round of project to be funded through the Radboud-Glasgow Collaboration Fund, now in its 7th round of funding. The Steering Committee also met with previous recipients of the Fund at a networking lunch to hear about the impact of their activities to date.

SEEP ‘Beyond Exchange’ week 

Supported by funding from the Scottish Government’s Scottish Education Exchange Programme (SEEP), the University of Glasgow hosted 15 members of staff from European partner universities from 10-14 March 2025.

The ‘Beyond Exchange’ event brought together colleagues from partner institutions from our international networks to discuss alternatives to traditional student exchange, and to share best practices and innovative ideas.

Ministry of Science and Culture Lower Saxony visit

In February, a delegation from Lower Saxony including the State Secretary of the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture, Secretary General Volkswagen Foundation and Managing Director For Wind - Centre for Wind Energy Research arrived on campus to meet with the Centre for Sustainable Solutions.

Visit from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz 

President Krausch and 15 academics from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz visited the university in February. This was a follow up to a visit that took place in 2024, this time with a focus on complementary pedagogical innovation and flexible approaches to teaching and learning that can be addressed via international cooperation.

The programme involved sessions with SULSA colleagues, Learning and teaching practices, and college-focused break out groups to name a few. President Krausch also met with Principal Sir Anton Muscatelli.

Kazakh Minister visits University amidst Storm Eowyn 

In February, the Minister of Science and Education of Kazakhstan, along with colleagues, visited the university. Despite the challenges posed by Storm Eowyn and the very windy conditions in Glasgow, the delegates met with Professor Bill Cushley, Assistant Vice-Principal International. They discussed collaborative provisions and explored various parts of the university campus.

King Saud University delegation visits campus

In January, the Dean for Global Engagement Middle East and North America welcomed the Vice President of King Saud University and colleagues to the campus.

During the visit, the delegates met with colleagues from student mobility to discuss international opportunities. They also networked with members of the College of Medical, Veterinary, and Life Sciences to discuss existing and future collaborations

Visit criteria

Our International Relations team are ready to facilitate and coordinate international partnership visits and events. We welcome and will support visits that

  • Support the delivery of our Global Glasgow strategy and the objectives within it.
  • Focus on fostering institutional partnerships, especially those seeking to establish or enhance collaborations such as student international experience, joint research or joint delivery of teaching.
  • Involve high-ranking representatives, including but not limited to, senior university leadership, ministries, educational providers, industry or government officials.

These visits are usually university-wide or specifically seek meetings with senior leadership or Deans of Global Engagement.

We will do our best to accommodate all visit requests; however, there are instances when we may not be able to fulfill every requirement.

Please note that certain staff members may have prior commitments, affecting their availability. Additionally, visits cannot be arranged during University of Glasgow holidays.
