Standard Staff Desktop (SSD)
SSD
The Standard Staff Desktop gives staff and postgraduate research students a base of commonly used applications, including Microsoft 365, antivirus, PDF reader and more.
SSD PCs are managed by UofG, automatically updated, ensuring the best security cover.
Software
To install other software on your SSD PC under a University license:
Cloud storage
- Store all types of University data using OneDrive for Business in Microsoft 365. This is the University's approved cloud storage
- Find out about the University's cloud storage policy
Please note the Microsoft 365 synchronisation client is not supported on SSD. It is not required due to the University network connection.
Guidance
System updates
- DO install updates and restart your device as soon as you receive notification
- DO NOT upgrade any of the basic system components: this is to ensure compliance with software licensing and because patches to core programmes (Outlook, Word, etc.) are often applied on the assumption that the installed version is known
