Menopause and Hormonal Changes

The Menopause and Hormonal Changes Policy represents one of the University’s key steps in raising awareness of menopause and wider hormonal changes, reducing the stigma around discussing these experiences, and encouraging colleagues to request adjustments and/or support where helpful.

The policy is supported by a range of evidence‑based guidance and support resources, including materials Menopause Information Pack for Organizations (MIPO), a research-based, free, open access suite of resources to help workplaces support menopausal transition. MIPO’s UK-based lead is Professor Kat Riach, Adam Smith Business School.

Since 2022, the University has hosted a programme of Menopause Cafés and related events to build community, encourage open conversation, and develop confidence in seeking support. In 2025, the University was accredited as Menopause Friendly by an independent panel, recognising our sustained commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for colleagues experiencing menopause or other hormonal changes.
