Student visa holder attendance and engagement monitoring (during non-teaching, exams, and vacation periods)

We are updating how we record student visa holders' academic engagement, as Semester 2 ends and the exam/vacation period begins.

A reminder of key academic dates: Semester 2 teaching ends on 27 March 2026, the Spring Vacation runs from 30 March 2026 to 17 April 2026, and the revision/exam period runs from 20 April to 22 May 2026. The new Academic Year will start on 14 September 2026. 

Undergraduate Student Visa Holders

 

  • Undergraduate Student Visa holders are not required to check-in via SafeZone app between 27 March and 21 September 2026.
  • Check-ins will resume from Semester 1 in the next academic year.
  • Undergraduate Student Visa holders should check-in via SafeZone app for all timetable events from 21 September 2026.

Please disregard if your circumstances/programme of study require you to be on campus after 27 March 2026.

Postgraduate Research (PGR) Student Visa Holders

PGR student visa holders are reminded to continue recording their academic engagement as Semester 2 teaching ends and the exam/vacation period begins.

Postgraduate Research (PGR) Student Visa Holders

  • There are no changes.
  • PGR student visa holders should continue with their current monthly supervisor meetings and register their meetings via the UofG Engagement Form. Students can access the form by searching ‘engagement form’ in UofG Helpdesk.

Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Student Visa Holders

From 27 March 2026 until 21 September 2026 student engagement monitoring (check-ins) via the SafeZone app will be suspended. However, if they have scheduled exams, it is important to know that they are still expected to attend them which will reflect their academic engagement.

Postgraduate Teaching (PGT) Student Visa Holders (during dissertation/project)

  • From 27 March until 22 May 2026, they will not be required to check-in via the SafeZone app. Engagement will be recorded via the submission of any coursework and/or online exams in Moodle. 
  • From 22 May until 21 September 2026, PGT Student Visa holders should ensure they are meeting with their supervisor(s) every month and register their meeting via the UofG Helpdesk Engagement Form. Students can access the form by searching ‘engagement form’ in UofG Helpdesk.
  • Their supervisory meetings must be either all face-to-face or can be a mixture of face-to-face and online.

If PGT student visa holders (with a January start date) have scheduled exams during April and May, it is important to know that they are still expected to attend them, as this will demonstrate their academic engagement.

Key information

  • During Teaching Events/Teaching Block
    • Please continue to check-in via the SafeZone app.

 

  • During Dissertation or Project Block
    • They no longer need to check-in their engagement via the SafeZone app, however, they should ensure they are meeting with their supervisor(s) every month and register their meeting via the UofG Helpdesk Engagement Form. Students can access the form by searching ‘engagement form’ in UofG Helpdesk.
