Research title: Using Spatial Data to Understand Missing Data Mechanisms
Research summary
I am currently researching missing data, including its mathematics and spatial characteristics. Missing data is a significant issue for all users of data and the ability to accurately manage this phenomenon is of great value to all sectors of the economy. This is particularly the case given the increased focus on data in "data-driven" organisations and the advent of accessible AI systems, such as large language models (LLM). A critical issue is the ability to combine dataset from different sources, with different temporal characteristics and/or different geographic scales.
I am also interested in how missing data impact surveys. Missing data in this context are termed "nonresponse" and are an issue for this valuable tool used to understand society, the economy, and so much more. Nonresponse rates have been rising over the past decades; understanding and addressing this is important to maintain trust in this valuable tool.
