Research title: Scalable Blockchain Protocols and Systems for Future Internet of Things

Research Summary

Haoran Xu is a PhD candidate at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow. His research lies at the intersection of distributed systems and machine learning, focusing on Byzantine-resilient semantic consensus. He is developing the Fuzzy Byzantine Agreement (FBA) framework, which couples certified robust semantic encoders with geometry-aware robust aggregation. His work provides formal analyses—agreement, validity, and termination under partial synchrony, robustness bounds, and complexity—alongside system building: adversarial corpus construction, protocol implementation, and evaluations in multi-agent and V2X settings. The overarching goal is to endow decentralized AI and communication networks with principled reliability guarantees in the presence of misinformation and strategic manipulation.
