Increasing Collegiality in Research: Lessons from the InFrame Project

How can research leadership and academic cultures become more collegial, supportive, and transformative?

Online Symposium | Wednesday 25 February 2026 | 11:00–12:30 GMT | Microsoft Teams

Join us for an inspiring online symposium showcasing insights and practical lessons from the InFrame Project. This interactive session explores how hidden structures, relationships, and practices shape research culture, and how intentional collegiality can drive meaningful change.

Drawing on real-world experience from across the project, the InFrame team will present three complementary perspectives on fostering cultural change in research environments:

  • Giving voice to the community
Co-creating a framework for research culture change
Lisa Backwell (University of Edinburgh) shares insights from Culture Catalyst Fund data, highlighting how research communities collaboratively design initiatives to strengthen collegiality.

  • Making hidden labour visible
Mapping leadership, collegiality, and support networks
Zain Ul Abidin (University of Glasgow) uncovers the often-invisible infrastructures of care and connection that underpin successful research funding and collective achievement.

  • Role modelling collegiality in practice
An interdisciplinary research support team case study
Joulie Axelithioti (University of Glasgow), Caitlin McDonald (University of St Andrews), and Cristina Vazquez Martin (University of Glasgow) reflect on how a newly formed team navigated role clarity, interdependence, and shared purpose.

If interested, REGISTER HERE. The symposium will conclude with a live discussion and Q&A, offering space for reflection, exchange, and shared learning.
