Engaging with the Centre for Teaching Excellence
The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE) brings together educators, researchers, and partners across Scotland to promote collaboration, innovation, and excellence in teaching. Through its national and local hubs, the Centre supports professional learning and research-informed practice across all areas of education.
CfTE’s work is rooted in partnership, connecting teachers, schools, local authorities, and national organisations through shared inquiry, professional learning, and research engagement. Our approach values practitioners' knowledge and experience and aims to strengthen connections among practice, research, and policy.
How Teachers Will Engage With The Centre
CfTE has been created to connect teachers, practitioners, and partners through a shared commitment to high-quality professional learning and educational research. It brings together the expertise of national and local hubs to create opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of ideas across education.
Teachers can engage with the Centre in a range of flexible and meaningful ways, both online and in person. Activities include professional conversations with national and international experts, collaborative practitioner enquiry, communities of practice focused on specific themes, and access to high-quality research briefs and resources.
Our teacher associates act as ambassadors and conduits for the Centre’s work. They promote opportunities, support colleagues to take part in CfTE activities, and share insights from classrooms and local authorities to help shape future programmes.
CfTE’s offer will continue to develop in response to teachers’ interests and emerging priorities across the education system. The table below outlines the main ways teachers can access and engage with the Centre and its hubs.

Who we engage with
Beyond classroom teachers, CfTE works closely with:
- School and system leaders
- Local authorities and regional improvement collaboratives
- Independent and early years sectors
- University partners and researchers
- National education bodies and policy stakeholders
Together, these partnerships strengthen a shared culture of professional learning and research engagement across Scotland.
Get Involved
The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE) is being developed in collaboration with the teaching profession and wider education stakeholders.
