School of Education

The School of Education at the University of Glasgow hosted its first International Symposium on AI in Education on 27–28 April 2026, bringing together educators, researchers, policymakers and sector leaders from across Scotland and the international education community.

Held at a pivotal moment for education systems worldwide, the two-day symposium created a shared space for dialogue, reflection and exchange around the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in learning, teaching and educational leadership. Combining local insight with global perspectives, the event focused on navigating the ethical, pedagogical, cultural and societal implications of AI in education.

Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, interactive workshops and stakeholder forums, participants explored critical questions around responsibility, agency, inclusion and professional practice. Contributions from leading international scholars sat alongside voices from schools, universities, local authorities and national organisations, highlighting both the opportunities AI presents and the challenges it raises for educators and learners.

The symposium also marked an important milestone for the School of Education with the introduction of its new MSc in AI in Education. Designed to meet growing global demand for AI‑literate educators, leaders, innovators and policy professionals, the programme supports participants to critically engage with artificial intelligence and to help shape the future of education with insight, responsibility and confidence.

The International Symposium on AI in Education was supported by the Research and Teaching Group Small Grants Fund and the Centre for Teaching Excellence, whose support made the event possible.
