Biography
Drew Burrett is a Teacher Associate at the Centre for Teaching Excellence.
He works as a Secondary Teacher of Physics & General Science in a school in the west of Scotland having completed a BSc(Hons) degree in Technological Physics at the University of Glasgow prior to completing his PGCE at the University of Strathclyde.
Over his 3 decade long career Drew has worked in a range of sectors and contexts including overseas, large urban and small rural schools. He has developed and provided a range of pedagogical and digital learning supports to colleagues and across local and national networks.
Since 2013 Drew has worked in conjunction with the Institute of Physics in Scotland as a Network Coordinator and Physics Coach, leading and supporting professional learning activities through individualised approaches, local subject networks, National events and online sessions. He is an active member of the IOP Scotland Education Committee and the Scottish Physics Teachers Summer School Organising Committtee.
Drew has developed learning and teaching resources with a number of organisations, written articles for the Times Educational Supplement Scotland on assessment and grassroots professional learning, in which he continues to engage through events such as TeachMeet, Pedagoo and ResearchEd.
Research interests
Drew has engaged as a co-researcher on projects researching -
- professional learning and retention practices of physics teachers
- practical teaching in secondary level certificated phyiscs
- teacher leadership
He is keen to explore the impact of subject specific professional learning through his work at the Centre for Teaching Excellence.
