Biography

Evonne Smith is a Principal Teacher in Glasgow, currently seconded to the University of Glasgow as a Teacher Associate at The Centre for Teaching Excellence.  Evonne became a teacher after a period of teaching English in Japan, having previously completed a B.A Hons in English and Geography at the University of Strathclyde.  This has led to a career long interest in supporting children with English as an Additional Language.  Evonne completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Warwick, and has recently completed a Masters in Educational Leadership at the University of Glasgow.   

Research interests

Evonne has recently completed her Master's research on the role of Middle Leaders supporting colleagues with the inclusion of Learners with Additional or Complex Support Needs.  In her role as a Teacher Associate at The Centre for Teaching Excellence, Evonne is currently exploring how aspects of Immersion Pedagogy can be used to support English as an Additional Language learners, as part of a wider enquiry on Inclusive pedagogies.
