Biography
Sara-Jane joined the Centre for Teaching Excellence as a Teacher Associate in September 2025, based in the Teaching-Focused Research Hub. She also works as a primary teacher in Renfrewshire, leading a range of whole-school initiatives including Equality and Diversity, Micro:bit Coding Skills and the Young Leaders of Learning programme.
Sara-Jane completed her BEd in Primary Education at the University of Edinburgh in 2013 and her MEd in Education Studies (Inclusive Education) at the University of Strathclyde in 2023. She is also fully registered with the GTCS in both Primary Education and ASN (3-18). Her master’s dissertation examined primary teachers’ perceptions of LGBT-inclusive education in Scotland, critically analysing the tensions between policy and practice to reveal barriers to effective change. She continues to develop these interests through further writing and sustained critical engagement in the field.
Sara-Jane is passionate about supporting learners from marginalised groups and fostering inclusive practices that safeguard those at risk of exclusion. Her work at the CfTE seeks to ensure that pupil voice and participation are at the centre of research-informed professional learning. She is eager to collaborate with practitioners who have an interest Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
