Biography
Susan Goodlad is a Teacher Associate at the Centre for Teaching Excellence. She joined the CfTE in October 2025 and is part of the Centre’s Learning for Sustainability and Rural Education hub. She works in her seconded post with the CfTE on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Susan works as a Principal Teacher in an ASN school in East Renfrewshire. She graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2001 with a MA (Hons) Psychology and continued her studies with a PGDE in Primary Teaching at the University of Glasgow in 2005. Susan has always been passionate about Equity and Inclusion in Education and completed a PgCert in Inclusive Education at the University of Strathclyde in 2022.
Susan has extensive experience across both mainstream and Additional Support Needs (ASN) educational settings. With a strong commitment to evidence‑informed practice, she has developed her skills in learning, teaching and assessment, especially for those learners with additional support needs. Throughout her career, Susan has led multiple areas of school improvement, demonstrating strategic leadership and a strong capacity for collaborative and partnership working. She has played a significant role in projects that advance children’s rights as well as learning for sustainability.
Research interests
Throughout her career, Susan has engaged in practitioner enquiry and has been involved in communities of practice.
She is particularly interested in practice and research relating to:
- Inclusive Pedagogy
- Children’s rights and the UNCRC
- Learning for Sustainability
Susan is keen to engage and collaborate with educators across diverse sectors who are committed to professional learning and recognise the vital role research plays in enhancing teaching and learning.
