Biography
I qualified in Dentistry in 1989 from Dundee University. After 5 years in General Dental Practice including as a practice owner I returned to academia to run a large dental clinical trial, the first one to follow Good Clinical Practice guidelines and to complete a PhD. Specialist training in restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns, implants, endodontics and periodontology) was completed in 2005 and I started work as a Senior lecturer / honorary consultant. I also worked as an associate dean at NES where I had a significant role in setting up Aberdeen Dental School and 17 outreach training centres throughout Scotland as well as responsibility for ACT funding in dentistry. In 2015 I returned to Dundee full-time after setting up a Masters programme in forensic dentistry and took over responsibility for Taught PG courses.
In 2017 I moved to Glasgow and am now Director of Education for SoMDN and lead of the Clinical Dentistry section at the Dental School. My NHS commitment is to be the restorative member of the CLEFT MDT and according to my family "make dentures for grannies in Glasgow". I also provide forensic dentistry support for police, procurator fiscals, child welfare teams and the serious crime unit.
