Research title: The Color of Combat: Investigating the Evolution and Impact of Khaki Dye in American and British Military Uniforms
Research summary
My project is focused on American and British khaki-dyed miltiary uniforms from 1848 to 1918. The aim of this research to analyze changes in dye composition and the construction of uniforms. Additionally, it seeks to understand how khaki uniforms symbolize broader shifts in military strategy, technological advancements, and environmental adaptation.
This research will expand upon what we currently know about khaki worn by the American and British military by focusing not only on the history of this color but also on the production aspect of these uniforms. This research will examine the following research questions:
- What evolutionary changes took place in American and British khaki from its inception until 1918?
- How did the application of khaki in American and British military uniforms relate to shifts in battle strategy, firearms, and the various types of terrain encountered?
