Research title: Beavers and biogeochemistry: can beaver dams mitigate eutrophication in headwater streams impacted by diffuse nutrient pollution
Research summary
It is now widely known and accepted that beavers create dynamic waterscapes that provide a multitude of habitats resulting in biodiversity increases across flora and fauna. One of the research gaps in beaver engineered landscapes is a lack of understanding around what is happening biogeochemically to produce these changes. My research aims to start closing this gap by measuring water chemistry, gas fluxes, and nutrients in the sediment to map the biogeochemical processes in beaver ponds.
