Research title: Introducing “Judicial Theatre” as the Performance of Theatrical Mock Trials
Research summary
My interdisciplinary research project establishes an original theatrical concept I call “Judicial Theatre,” the performance of theatrical tribunals which simulate the judicial process. Judicial Theatre is unique in simulating the law’s performative qualities and exposing its concealed authoritative violence, therefore challenging justice-doing mechanisms, and generating an alternative form of social justice.
The conceptualization of Judicial Theatre encompasses a transhistorical study of theatrical tribunals, leading towards an introduction of a new dramaturgical apparatus for contemporary research and practice of political theatre. Practice workshops will then disseminate Judicial Theatre within societal contexts, evaluating its political impact.
