Lavenda Geshica

Research title: Through the Eyes of a Child: Adverse Childhood Experiences and Suicidal Behavior Using the IMV Model

Research summary

Lavenda’s PhD research investigates how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) shape the trajectory of suicide risk in adulthood among the Indonesian population. Guided by the Integrated Motivational–Volitional (IMV) model, the study explores how early-life adversity contributes to later suicidal thoughts and behaviours through key psychological pathways, especially defeat and entrapment. It also considers how sociocultural factors, such as stigma and religiosity, may amplify or diminish the long-term impacts of ACEs on suicidality. This research aims to identify culturally specific risk and protective factors across the lifespan and to inform the development of more effective, culturally sensitive suicide prevention strategies in Indonesia.
