Research title: Co-created heritage-themed media as a vehicle for linguistic self-confidence and boosting intergenerational language transmission among indigenous Gaelic speakers: a case study from North Lewis.
Research summary
My research explores the potential of heritage-themed co-created media in strengthening linguistic self-confidence and intergenerational transmission among speakers of a minoritized language, focusing on Gaelic-speaking communities in Nis (Ness). The community-centred design, creation and delivery of a Gaelic multimedia project about heritage connected to the annual Guga hunt on Sùlaisgeir will provide the basis for this project, conducted in partnership with Comunn Eachdraidh Nis. Attitudes to and use of the language among participants will be measured throughout the project, with the goal of assessing the impact of community-led Gaelic heritage and media opportunities on speakers, and of identifying any specific strengths of heritage-based programmes as part of the wider context of Gaelic revitalisation activities.
Bidh mi a' rannsachadh na buaidhe a bhios pròiseactan dualchais/àrc-eòlais a' toirt air misneachd agus aiseag thar-ginealach a' chànain am measg luchd-labhairt na Gàidhlig. Tha an rannsachadh stèidhichte air pròiseact coimhearsnachd air a ruith ann an co-bhonn le Comann Eachdraidh nis, a' coimhead air Sùlaisgeir, sealg' a Ghuga, agus an dualchas a tha ceangailte riutha.
