Research title: More Than My Mother's Daughter: Centring Black Girlhood in Barbados, 1750-1838
Research summary
This research will explore the lives of enslaved Black girls in Barbados from 1750-1838. It aims to construct a picture of their day-to-day lives through case studies and fragmental documents in the colonial archive. Analysing these case studies through the methodological lens of Black feminism, reading along the bias grain and a body-centred approach, it aims to display enslaved girls as individuals with unique experiences. Moreover, it advocates for Black girlhood as a methodological approach in investigating the lives of enslaved people in the Caribbean
