Biography
Fiona graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2008 and completed Vocational Training in Scotland. She went on to work extensively in primary dental care across the UK, where she developed over 15 years’ experience delivering comprehensive care within general practice.
During this time, Fiona completed the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) and a Master’s degree in Dental Public Health, Policy & Leadership. Her work in primary care fostered a strong commitment to patient‑centred care, with particular interest in how routine clinical encounters can become meaningful and positive experiences for patients.
This perspective aligned closely with her work promoting Realistic Medicine principles across dentistry, highlighting the benefits of shared decision‑making, and patient partnership, which continue to underpin her clinical practice, educational work, and academic interests.
Fiona has gained a range of secondary care experience, including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry, and Restorative Dentistry, contributing to a broad understanding of multidisciplinary care.
She completed the Chief Dental Officer’s Leadership Fellow programme, hosted by NHS Education for Scotland and Project Lift, further developing her interests and expertise in leadership, service development, and professional advocacy.
Fiona is currently appointed as a Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Dental Registrar in Periodontics at Glasgow Dental School. She is actively involved in undergraduate teaching and clinical supervision within Periodontics and supervises student elective projects. Her research interests are centred on periodontology, with a continued emphasis on recognising and embedding patient involvement in her research activities.
