Biography

Joe Greenwood-Hau is a Lecturer in the John Smith Centre at the University of Glasgow. He works on the Centre’s annual UK Youth Poll and delivers the associated honours course in the College of Social Science. The course gives students practical experience of designing, managing, and publicising a major annual poll that promotes the voices of young people and contributes to the UK’s national political conversation. His role at the centre builds on his experience of researching political (non-)participation, working in the UK polling industry, and teaching courses on political behaviour, survey methods, and statistical analysis.

Research interests

Joe's research sits at the intersection of political behaviour, political sociology, and political psychology, and currently focuses on how structural and perceived privilege relate to political participation and representation. His British Academy Monograph, titled ‘Capital, Privilege, and Political Participation,’ was published in 2025. He also recently contributed a chapter on class and politics to a textbook titled ‘UK Politics: Dynamics, Diversity, Territory‘, edited by Alan Convery. Joe has previously published on pedagogy, ideology and its relationship with views of politics, the influence of framing on support for expanding the franchise, and survey research methods.
